One Month Re-Cap

So! What a great job I have. Horses like Beau make my job so easy and fun! He is settled, understands his job and is clearly in charge of himself and the herd.  working my way backward. today we took our first off campus ride. Trailer loading without hesitation, easy at the trailer in the new place, loved leading, willing to follow. I only have one complaint...grass snatching... going to be an on going issue with a foody guy like him and spring grass is so tempting. We finally made an agreement by the end of the ride, that is, if he didn't stop or stray from the trail he could catch a few bites.  We had some really fun video of Beau working in the play yard, but unfortunately its too big to post here so here are a few blips .  We were working on turning the front end vs the hind end and how that has an effect on his go button!  and accomplishing the three tier tire ... There were a few more minutes, but alas limitations. and here he is in boot camp a few years ...

First week Done and Dusted

Been a good week here at Bar None with Beau! He's fitting in much better than I was predicting. First time out with the whole herd he had one moment with Slick and since then They have decided to split the herd. Slick gets Hailey, River and Annie, Beau gets Felix, Nova, and Havi. I look out and Slick is down at the bottom with his posse, and Beau under the trees with his. So interesting to watch herd dynamics. My herd is pretty used to changes, but they can also be warry of new comers!   We've had good rides this week. For ease of handling I put my English saddle on him and he looks fabulous.  I used the leather side pull hackamore and he seems very responsive to it.  After some play in the arena and playyard, where he climbed over most of the obstacles without hesitation, we went for a walk out the back gate.  He was very interested and forward. We got to the back side of the loop and he thought perhaps we were a little far from the herd and pasture. He got a l...

Welcome Beau to Bar None Stables, LLC training ! Beau is a 13 yr old mustang out of Idaho (not sure of HMA). Pictured here with his new friend Havi (also in for training). He is basically a LBI, but I see some extrovert peaking through here and there. He settled in so quick and easy, eating drinking all good. He is so personable with everyone and loves a good scratch (he is a very itchy boy and attention to his itchy is important)  He is  naturally balanced and moves his 1300# body with grace. Even though his feet were not so good. Common in the draft breed are flat feet, but luckily he got wonderful front feet, back feet not so great. both back feet had flares to the lateral , with cracks in the quarter walls of the right hind. I didn't take before pictures, but here is after trimming #1. there is still work to do on the hinds, but I didn't want to do too much at once. You can see the cracks in the RH, they were about 1/2 longer ! I did notice he had more trouble standi...
